Does Texting While Driving Cause Wrecks?

texting while drivingMost of us couldn’t put food on our table if we couldn’t drive; without public transportation, we couldn’t get to work otherwise. Unfortunately, that means braving a few risks. We can, however, mitigate these risks somewhat if we abstain from certain behaviors while driving. Texting while driving can cause a lot of wrecks, so you should avoid it at all costs.

Why not text and drive?

  • According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 1,600,000 crashes happen while one of the drivers uses their cell phone.
  • A study by Virginia Tech Transportation Institute stated that texting while driving created more danger of a wreck than driving intoxicated.
  • The Virginia Tech Transportation institute has also stated that distractions while driving take your eyes off the road for an average of 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that will take you across the length of a football field.

Driving requires a certain amount of focus that you just can’t give while looking at your cell phone. Here at American Engine Installations, we want to remind you to drive safe. For all your auto shop needs, check out our services. You can talk to one of our friendly representatives at 770-428-6440.
